Mobile Inspections Keep Them Rolling

The Client

AutoPort, Inc. provides automotive manufacturers and dealers with a range of services for vehicle modification, processing, shipping and logistics. Vehicle inspections are a key part of AutoPort's processing to make sure that a wide range of vehicle information is accurately captured, tracked and managed.

The Business Need

AutoPort was using paper forms to perform inspections, which includes capturing a wide range of information (make, model, VIN numbers, vehicle condition, etc.) on a high volume of vehicles. After the inspection data was entered onto the paper forms, the data was subsequently entered into a computer system. This manual process and duplication of entry was resulting in work flow bottlenecks and data integrity issues.

The Solution

Working in collaboration with AutoPort, Diamond Technologies designed and developed a new automated system which allows AutoPort staff to capture vehicle inspection data directly in the field using a tablet PC. The new system allows AutoPort inspectors to complete the forms using simple drop down menus, with free form text entry also supported. Once the data is captured, the PC automatically uploads the inspection data into AutoPort's back-end system for processing, analysis and reporting. Diamond Technolgies was able to develop an improved form on the tablet PC, using Mi-Forms forms development sofware from Mi_Co, which simplified AutoPort's sophisticated inspection form, providing ease-of-use for AutoPort's vehicle inspection team.

Business Impact

By automating the inspection process with new mobile technologies, AutoPort's inspection team conducts vehicle inspections more efficiently. Because data is entered directly into the PC and automatically uploaded to AutoPort's back-end systems, errors resulting from duplicate entry have been eliminated and workflow bottlenecks significantly reduced.
