Delaware's State Fire Marshal Goes Mobile

The Client

The State of Delaware Fire Marshal's Office is responsible for ensuring fire safety to the citizens of Delaware.

The Business Need

Fire safety is serious business. And after 9/11, the ability to proactively identify, track and manage potential problems takes on even greater urgency. The Office of the Delaware State Fire Marshal was in need of a quality, integrated system to manage its mission critical activities and information.

The Solution

Diamond Technologies' solution to this challenge was the development of a Palm™ enabled fire inspection and incident tracking system. This integrated system is used by state fire investigators, code enforcement officials and other State Fire Marshal personnel to track, manage, and analyze fire investigations, code enforcement and inspections, citizen complaints, incidents and the juvenile intervention program.

Prior to implementation of the new system, fire investigators and code enforcement officials used a paper-based system that was later transcribed into an antiquated computer system. With the new system, information is entered directly into a Palm™ handheld "in-the-field". As a result, information entry is quick, accurate and efficient. When the inspectors return to the office, the Palm™ is synched up and data is automatically loaded into a central SQL Server database.

Business Impact

Fire Marshal management uses the system's intuitive interface to perform robust reporting and statistical analysis. The community is better served by identifying potential fire hazards before they occur. Potential "fire starters" can be identified and stopped before they pose further problems, providing a higher level of security for all Delawareans.
