Migrating to SharePoint from Lotus Notes

The Client

Glenmede is a privately owned independent investment and wealth management firm that has been providing wealth management for individuals, families, consultants and institutional investors for over 50 years. The company prides itself on its focus of personally delivering consistent, thoughtful advice-in good markets and bad, year after year, generation to generation.

The Business Need

Glenmede was seeking assistance to migrate a suite of business applications from Lotus Notes to Microsoft SharePoint. Glenmede required in-depth knowledge with the Microsoft SharePoint platform to assist in this effort. In addition, with an IT staff deeply engrained in Notes, one of Glenmede's primary objectives was establishing a "best practices" software development and release strategy using the SharePoint platform and related Microsoft technologies.

The Solution

Diamond's SharePoint Deployment Planning Services provided the approach to migrate Glenmede's Lotus Notes application base to Microsoft SharePoint. Glenmede's applications included FileNET, Project Management, Electronic Forms Requests, Vendor Management, Compliance, User Training, Departmental Information websites and applications. Diamond provided Glenmede with consulting, application re-engineering, developer training and toolsets. Microsoft Visual Studio and Team Services provided a best practices framework for developing and deployment of applications to the Microsoft platform. Microsoft's Visual Studio extensions for SharePoint provided project templates for developers using Visual Studio 2008 to create, debug, package and deploy SharePoint projects including web parts, data lists, content types, event receivers, templates, modules and other SharePoint artifacts. Coupled with Microsoft Team Foundation Server, this solution provided Glenmede the toolset to deploy proven SharePoint solutions.
