New Castle County Increases Efficiency With SharePoint Services 3.0
The Client
New Castle County, Delaware is the most populous in the State, providing a wide range of online information and services to its citizens and businesses in the region.
The Business Need
New Castle County was seeking a standardized platform for its Internet web presence that would enable its operating departments to keep its web content fresh without the assistance of its IT department. New Castle County wanted a web content management and integration platform from an industry leader that it could count on for the long run.
The Solution
Diamond Technologies recommended Microsoft SharePoint Services 3.0 and is currently working with New Castle County on migrating its numerous web sites and applications to the SharePoint platform. Windows SharePoint Services are 3.0 installed on an externally facing web server. Anonymous users are granted access to only pages used to view the content. Local accounts are created on the SharePoint web server for content contributors who will maintain website content. SharePoint Lists and Document Libraries are used to store most of the content which is edited or uploaded by the appropriate contributors. Diamond assisted the County in establishing appropriate SharePoint governance practices to ensure website quality and consistency. A web development team maintains control of page creation, overall navigation, and the rendering of all edited content through a combination of nested master pages, style sheets, and shared controls.
Business Impact
The primary business impact is the improved efficiency recognized by New Castle County in maintaining its Internet presence and integrated applications. Web content is easily maintained by departmental content authors, eliminating the need for IT resources or intervention.
