Online System Streamlines Charter School Management
The mission of Delaware's Department of Education is to promote the highest quality education for every Delaware student by providing visionary leadership and superior service. In support of this mission, DOE seeks to leverage information technology in order to provide its services efficiently and cost effectively.
In order to receive and/or renew their charter, Charter Schools are required to provide the Department of Education with a comprehensive set of information that is designed to ensure the quality of education provided to the students. Once information is submitted to DOE, a manual and highly paper-intensive process of compiling, copying, routing and distributing hundreds of pages of documents for review and approval is required. DOE was seeking an online system to manage the submission and approval of new and renewal school applications and accompanying documentation.
DOE engaged Diamond Technologies to architect, design and implement a web based Charter School Administration and Management System (CAMS). Diamond worked closely and collaboratively with the DOE team to determine how best to reproduce and enhance their paper based process electronically. The new solution provides Charter Schools with an online system for the submission and management of their applications and related documentation. CAMS also provides a web portal that tracks progress and facilitates collaboration and communications between DOE and Charter School personnel throughout the application and renewal process. All Charter School applications, related documents and correspondence are now stored in an electronic document library.
The amount of paper consumed by the application and approval process has been reduced from thousands of pages per application to almost none, a direct cost and environmental benefit of the online process. Applications are submitted by schools and routed through the review almost instantaneously, reducing approval times and increasing overall efficiency. The bottom line is an improved process for managing Charter Schools, a higher quality education for the students.
